I have recently sent out 3 casting notices from my production company clients and casting director network that required Ear Prompter as a skill, the most recent for Canon which paid $6000.00. Do you possess this skill?

With an Ear Prompter you can easily record your copy and play back in the ear, giving a performance that looks flawless & prepared. You'll come off like a SUPER professional and have the edge in auditions and callbacks!
My next 3 week Ear Prompter Class Begins Monday August 16th at 6:30pm at Actors Connection NYC -Only a few spots left!

You'll get accustomed to speaking while listening to a script in your ear; How to own the words; Basic Technical Aspects; Facial Expressions; Cadence & Timing; How to easily record last minute scripts and changes; how to use Ear Prompter quickly on location or at auditions when a traditional TelePrompTer set up is not possible or desired. We’ll show you where to find the best, personal, professional equipment available in today's market!
Ear Prompter is the answer for: on-location shoots, wall to wall copy cue card auditions, for folks who wear glasses and have problems with glare on-camera or trouble seeing a Teleprompter, for folks with Dyslexia, for scripts with hard to pronounce words or names, for last minute script changes in memorized copy, for anyone who wants a leg up on the competition!
” As a Product Specialist for Lexus, I have had opportunities for work in special events which required the use of an Ear Prompter, until Patricia’s training, I missed out on those opportunities.I appreciated the hands-on work with a variety of scripts and scenarios that are representative of “real-life” work.Ear Prompter classes are difficult to find in New York City.I now feel well prepared.”

When’s the last time you used a Teleprompter? If it’s been a while you might be rusty. Like anything else it’s a “use it or loose it” skill. If you listed “Teleprompter” on your resume under “skills”, those that hire you expect you to be a skilled expert at it, that is, don’t use your next on-camera job as your next practice session. That’s a recipe for disaster.
Many on-camera performers take my Teleprompter Intensive at Actors Connection more than once for this very reason. The next intensive is this Tuesday January 19th at 6pm. Right now there are only 3 spots left and many folks jump on board at the last minute. If you’d like to join us again, or for the first time please contact Actors Connection via www.actorsconnection.com. You can register on-line even if Monday is a holiday. Here’s to keeping you from rusting in 2010!

Looking for a strong, confident personality who can carry a show but prior hosting experience helpful but not required. It’s a given you love to EAT. But you’re also curious and hungry to know everything from the history to the recipes to the purveyors to the people making and serving the food.

March 16th Begins the new 4 Week TV Hosting & Interview Skills Class, Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30pm (sometimes 9pm) ONLY A FEW SPOTS LEFT!
Here's the weekly rundown:
Class #1: Students work on-camera with Teleprompter using authentic scripts taken from Entertainment, lifestyle, sports, educational, business news, medical, web, & traditional news programming, and corporate video productions. Single and co-host reads. This first class begins with an introduction to the industry with an overview of television program formats, settings, situations, and the "types" of hosts needed for each. We’ll also cover the different audition scenarios that potential hosts will be confronted with.
Class #2: Focuses on “in studio” interview skills and “man on the street” interview skills. We’ll cover making smooth transitions from reading Teleprompter segment introductions into guest interviews and back again. This will also include interview technique and connecting with your guest and audience.
Class #3: Focuses on drills that include off the cuff improv stand-ups to camera, quick thinking on your feet, & tackling the dreaded “tell me about yourself” audition.
Class #4: This final class wraps up with each student presenting a clean host read using Teleprompter or memory, of a show intro or segment that they write recorded to DVD-R (provided by each student) that can be used as a beginners “audition reel” for viewing by potential agents and production companies the student will contact when they do their personal marketing. Students also have the option to use a script that they have worked with in class. At the completion of the final class each student will be offered an in depth booklet of information that recaps the various types of programming, program formats, host "types", audition scenarios, important points to remember, frequently asked questions, production company contacts, hosting agents contacts, website resources, marketing resources, demo reel tips, on-air image tips, headshot info and PSC’s “The 10 Keys to On-Camera Presenting”.

Broadway Tip: A student of mine from Mama Mia uses Bananas to combat nerves. Swears they are beta blockers & calm her before a performance.
Lay off the perfume & cologne. Smell is the scent of memory. You may smell like a bad one to your casting director or client.
Confidence Tip: It is not what we "are" that keeps us from reaching our goals but what we "think" we are not.
Voice Tip: The Larynx/voice-box is a muscle. The more tense the muscle the higher pitched your voice will be. Massage & warmth help it relax
Follow Up Tip: A hand written thank you note carries a lot of weight in a cyber age of emails & texts. I know folks who save them in a file.
Prep Tip: Before that meeting or audition, visit the location ahead of time. Know your way before the big day.
Confidence Tip: We can't focus on a negative thought & a positive one at the same time. You have to pick. It's a choice to think positive.
Performance Tip: If you believe, the audience will believe. This goes for acting, selling, persuading, educating, inspiring or motivating.
Australian Study: Gum chewing associated with higher alertness, reduced stress & anxiety, greater performance on multi-tasking activities!
Confidence Tip: Confidence comes not from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong.
Voice Tip: Avoid dairy products before an audition or meeting. Coagulation occurs around vocal chords & makes you want to clear your throat.
Confidence: the sureness of feeling that you are equal to the task at hand. Practice & preparation are the magic bullets that can kill fear.
Psychologist Stuart Brody believes the hormone Oxytocin gives a calming effect in public speaking anxiety. Sex=Oxytocin for up to a week!
NASA study shows spiders can't spin webs while on caffeine - may be an indicator to limit caffeine prior to an interview or audition.
Performance Tip: Tension Headache? Rub your earlobes! This acupressure trick clears your head & dulls pain above the neck.
Motivation Tip: Ditch the sunglasses on the way to that interview or audition. Light stimulates neurotransmitters which increase motivation.
Image Tip: Ditching the sunglasses will also prevent the dreaded "Opti-indentus" - those ugly indentations on the sides of your nose.
Mindset Tip: You're there because someone thought you'd be right for the job. Remember this and enjoy your self.

I just booked a fun job hosting "how to" segments for Proctor & Gamble's Tide.com website. We shot 10 segments in two days and it looks like it may turn into an on-going gig. I tell you this news because once again I thank my Ear Prompter for helping me book the job. When I got to the audition it was wall to wall copy and no cue cards. I went into the restroom, recorded my script, and comfortably and confidently gave an audition I felt really solid about. The Casting Director loved the Ear Prompter and the read I was able to give with it. P&G must have agreed, and I booked the job. At the shoot I used the Ear Prompter once again because there was no Teleprompter. Even though we shot in short segments I used the Ear Prompter for the longer opening intros and was able to give 2 good takes right up front with efficiency and ease of performance for all 10 episodes. The director and producer loved the tool and had never seen it used before. At one point during the shoot the whole crew gathered around to see how I use the thing. Everyone thought it was such a cool tool. The two day shoot went great and everyone was thrilled to get out on time and on one day even earlier than expected. If' you don't have this "secret weapon" in your audition and performance arsenal and would like to not only have a leg up on the competition, but simply have a tool at your fingertips that will increase your confidence & increase your value as a performer, you're invited to join me at my next 3 week Ear Prompter Training sessions. When: Tuesday nights April 13, 20 & 27 at 6:30PM. Where: Actors Connection 630 9th Ave, Ste 1410 NYC. You can register via phone at: 212-977-6666 or at www.actorsconnection.com. Only a few spots remain. P.S. I also just shot the latest episode of the New Jerseylifestyle show "My Bergen" that I host. We were on location in various parts of NJ and I used my Ear Prompter for every segment. The producer and director proclaimed it a "life saver"! - I'll have the equipment for you to learn on. When you're ready I'll tell you where to purchase your own for around $100.00. You can't bring a TelePrompter home to practice on, but once you have your own Ear Prompter you can continue to master this amazing skill as fast as you want to.
A big congratulations to TV Hosting Class & Ear Prompter Class student Desi Sanchez!!! Desi is now the official new face & Host of MTV2 !!!!!
"I always talk about you and recommend you to my colleagues. And BTW, the earprompter has doubled for me as an awesome tool to help me memorize before a shoot, even during the times I don't end up using it on camera :-) Everyone asks about it and I say I learned it from Media Image Coach!" - Desi Sanchez

San Francisco/LA Hosts Needed
This Casting Notice comes from: John Di Domenico-
Hi Everyone,
I'm working an event in San Francisco and I been asked to book some additional actors 5 males and 5 females. We are looking for a diverse group actors. The booking is hosting a one hour medical game show. So I'm looking for host types, trade show types that can be warm, funny, friendly and handle medical terminology. I need ten people total. Strong hosts the game and also run the PowerPoint that control the game, 5 males and 5 females. There is difficult medical terminology that is in the game but the actor/host would get the terms in advance with a phonetic breakdown.
Here is the rate: $600 for the rehearsal day and $800 for the show day for a total of $1,400. Local actors would start early 9/14 (rehearsal day), show day is 9/15 and the actors would be complete by 1PM. Again we are looking for local actors since there is no budget for air travel and hotel. If you know of any actor in the San Francisco area that is a host type please pass on my information.
2nd Option: Some of the talent already booked is coming in from LA and they will be driving up from LA (splitting the gas) and putting themselves up in a hotel or staying with friends. LA actors are an option but they have to cover all expenses.
Again if If you know of any actor in the San Francisco area that is a host type please pass on my information.

HSN / Kraft Article Just saw this article about how HSN is changing their format to include more mainstream products and presenters for those products. HSN is in FLA, I bet QVC in PA will follow suit with this type of format as well. It's cool to see how Kraft and others are branching out to promote their products which means more opportunity for folks like you and I to present in different forms of media, thought you might find it interesting.
Keep me posted on how things are going!

HSN changes model, takes product placement money
By: Douglas McIntyre
Sep 28th 2009
Home Shopping Network (HNSI) will no longer just make money selling clothing, kitchen appliances, and cosmetics. Soon it will also begin promoting products from companies like Kraft (KFT) on its programs. According to The Wall Street Journal, "Next month, the network says, it will air a three-minute segment in which an HSN chef will show how to create a recipe from Kraft's Food & Family magazine using Kraft products." A number of other companies are cutting similar deals with the network.
For HSN, it is a brilliant move. With its stock at a 52-week high of $15.06, it needs to show investors that it can go beyond its traditional retail roots. Its sales were down 8 percent in the June quarter to $640 million. Adjusted EBITDA increased 12 percent to $43.3 million because of better gross profit margins. However, net income may be a poor measurement of performance for the quarter because the firm had large one-time charges last year.
HSN has almost nothing to lose and a lot to gain from adding these product placements into its segments. And it may even help promote the merchandise it is already selling. Putting Kraft foods into programming which sells pots and pans, or plates and utensils, is hardly likely to upset an audience that is watching the channel to look for new products and bargains. The new business model could help HSN begin to grow again. Product placement won't bother viewers but it may brighten the outlook for HSN investors.

It won't matter that 10,000 doors might be slammed in your face, because when door number 10,001 flies open, revealing pathways of success, satisfaction, love and respect, with flowers dancing, fountains sparkling, friends blushing, moonbeams beaming, and abundance abounding, you'll completely forget about all the other doors.
Happens every day to someone, somewhere, your turn will come.
Habit #1: Double check that you have all the correct information from your agent.Make sure to confirm style of dress, age range, & shoot dates if scheduled, to make sure you are available if booked.
Habit #2:Always arrive for your audition a minimum of a half hour early.
Habit #3:Don’t sign in until your actual call time, resist the temptation, it will be strong if you worry about others signing in ahead of you or if you have another appointment after that you are trying to keep.Use this extra time to review any story boards, review copy in private and record onto your EarPrompter if applicable. If you are trying to commit the copy to memory, this time is a bonus for memorization to sink in. Now is not the time to chat with other talent. There’ll be time to do that after the audition.
Habit #4:Slow down. When we are nervous our knee jerk reaction is to get a situation over as fast as possible.Don’t rush the time you are given. Savor it. Each audition is another beneficial experience under our belt whether we book the job or not.
Habit #5:Ask questions. It’s ok to ask a casting director for direction.Questions regarding where your focus is (to camera or off), general attitude of spot, if you should go right into the copy after your slate etc. are all perfectly acceptable.
Habit #6: Don’t expect the Casting Director to hold your hand through the audition. You have to bring something to the party.Have confidence in your take on the character and delivery. The client may not know exactly what they are looking for until they see it. Maybe your look and your take on things will make for the perfect recipe.
Habit #7: Cultivate the understanding that there are a lot of intangible things going on that you have little or no control over that may impact a client’s choice of talent. If they are looking for a guy and a girl they may go for opposite looks.Maybe you look like the client’s ex, who knows.
Habit #8: Give it your best shot and forget about it.Move on to the next audition or project and if you get a call back or booking it will be a pleasant surprise.
Habit #9: Remind yourself that even the best of the best hear “no” at least 50% of the time.
Habit #10: Most important of all be a positive upbeat thinker and know that you have the same right to be at that audition as everyone else.
Working With a Wardrobe Stylist
Even though you may have written down all your stats on a card at the audition, you will most likely receive a call a couple of days before the shoot from the wardrobe stylist. They’ll need your sizes, your TRUE sizes. The most common complaint I hear from WS’s is that talent are generally larger than they sizes they give. Not sure why this is, I’m sure we could all have some fun speculating, but nevertheless, be true about your sizes.Tops, bottoms, waist, height, weight, shoe, bust (number and letter). If you end up playing a game of phone tag with them, leave all of this info in your message as well as colors that look best on you.If you have a color that is just awful on you, let them know that too.If you are asked to come in for a fitting prior to the shoot make sure you are wearing undergarments that will remain neutral under an array of clothing colors and textures that you may be asked to try on.Understand that the client is trying to outfit you in a certain look or character that may not be your taste in clothing and don’t be too concerned with how you look.
On the day of the shoot bring some basic wardrobe items with you. It’s always a winning idea to bring both beige and black bras and panties.Black and beige pantyhose. A small bag of jewelry accessories, small accent necklaces and earrings nothing too large or too shiny for camera.Ask if there are colors and styles of shoes you could bring, it’s always more comfortable to wear your own shoes if possible during a long shoot day, most likely on your feet.
#1. Postcards are your best bet. Make it easy for prospective clients. No envelopes to open. Less expensive postage for you. Folks get too many emails already and often delete the ones they don't recognize. I love www.vistaprint.com for fast, easy and affordable postcards that you can easliy create yourself in minutes.
#2. Your photo on one side, you latest bookings and training announcements on the other. Sweet, neat and simple.
#3. Have your email address, website (if you have one and hopefully you do), name and contact number printed clearly on either side.
#4. Make use of labels. Handwritten notes and addresses look unprofessional.
#5. Load Avery Label Pro onto your computer if you don't already have it. Every kind of label template you can imagine and corresponding labels available at your local business supply stores like Staples & Office Depot.
#6. Select a label that is 1/2 - 3/4 the size of the back of the left side of your postcard. The right side is for the address label and postage stamp. Create a template for this label and type in your latest information. Print out 100-500 of these labels depending on the size of your mailing and peel and stick your info onto the back of your postcard.
#7. It's ok if you only have one or two new things to report. You just need to keep your name and face out there and let people know you are actively working and/or training. Mail to Agents, Casting Directors, Productions Companies. You’ll find 700+ ready to stick affordable labels at www.mediaimagecoach.com.
#8. Order 1000-2000 postcards to have on hand. Monthly mailings can range from 100-500 pieces depending on who you are targeting during a particular month.
#9. Due this each and every month.
#10. Be prepared to follow up with demo tapes, 8 x 10's & resumes, bios' and cover letters when potential clients contact you for additional information. Also be sure that your website is up to date if you have one for them to check out.
